In 2016 we provided shelter and support to over 138 individuals at our hostel and crisis shelter in Barrack Street.
This number represents unique individuals served across both projects. However, we see larger numbers of homeless individuals at each shelter because people experience chronic homelessness due to factors such as a lack of housing and private rented accommodation in the north-east. This means that some of the individuals we serve have no choice but to return to our shelters due to systemic barriers.
We provide the following wraparound supports for individuals staying with us:
- Accommodation and food
- Supportive counselling
- Referral to appropriate treatment programmes and community services
- Assistance to obtain identification
- Budget/financial planning
- Service referral
- Assistance with housing search
