Health and Wellbeing

In Dundalk Simon Community we emphasize providing practical care which we know to be essential to the health and wellness of our clients.  Our emergency shelters prioritise creating clean and safe spaces for our residents is a priority and maintaining hygienic shelter spaces, preparing nutritious meals and ensuring our facilities are in order.  This allows us to meet a diverse range of needs and health conditions in each one of our shelters.

In addition to this, we promote a coherent approach to health promotion (e.g. healthy eating, sexual health, and drug awareness) and linking people into treatment programmes, counselling and group therapies, as appropriate to their needs.  The value of this to breaking the cycle of homelessness is in terms of addressing immediate need, encouraging and enabling people to engage in a more structured way with key services, and helping them maintain a level of coping without which they may become unwell.
