In Dundalk Simon the emphasis is on practical care which we know to be essential to the health and wellness of our service users. Our hostel and crisis shelter are a home away from home and therefore, creating clean and safe spaces for our residents is a priority. Our housekeeping team is responsible for maintaining hygienic shelter spaces, preparing nutritious meals and ensuring our facilities are in order. This arm of our work allows us to meet a diverse range of needs and health conditions in each one of our shelters. Did you know that our team serviced more than 9,778 meals last year?
In addition to this, we promote a coherent approach to health promotion (e.g. healthy eating, sexual health, and drug awareness) and linking people into treatment programmes, counselling and group therapies, as appropriate to their needs. The value of this to breaking the cycle of homelessness is in terms of addressing immediate need, encouraging and enabling people to engage in a more structured way with key services, and helping them maintain a level of coping without which they may become unwell.
